My wife and I visited London for the first time last month. We stayed for only 3 nights but spent almost four full days on the ground as we left Malaga really early and arrived in London by 8:00 in the morning and were in Central London by 9:30 and our departure flight was in evening (19:40).
We stayed in the Lancaster Gate area, north side of Hyde Park. We liked the area as it was wide quiet street and full of white buildings that all looked about the same.
We were 10 minutes walking from the Lancaster Gate Tube Station and had a Bus station around the block on Bayswater Rd. We were able to go all around London using the many different train lines as well as the public buses. We did not take a Taxi at all😂.
We flew into Gatwick airport and took the train to Victoria Station. As expected it was drizzling a bit. We walked into a Pret a Manger on Victoria street in front of Victoria Palace Theatre to eat breakfast not knowing that this is pretty big food store chain and that they have one in practically every block. Well, when we came out after breakfast the rain had stop and the skies cleared and stayed that way for the rest of the day.
After breakfast we headed to Buckingham Palace and arrived as they were just finishing the change of the Royal Guard ceremony. They do this a couple of days a week, so we made plans to be there in time for the Friday ceremony that I will go into details later in the post.
